Maganda Magazine and Eastwind Books of Berkeley is proud to sponsor a literary trifecta featuring Arlene Biala, Barbara Jane Reyes, and Eileen R. Tabios. Poet and performance artist Arlene Biala is the author of continental drift (West End Press) and her beckoning hands (Word Poetry) which just won a 2015 American Book Award. her beckoning hands is a collection of poems as prayer flags, offerings across the ocean, earth and sky. Biala's poems respond to family members, ancestors, spirits, deities, and beings whose voices have called out to her, and whose stories are of daily blessings, suffering, joy and longing. Barbara Jane Reyes is an Oaklandbased poet and educator; she is the author of four books of poetry, most recently To Love as Aswang in which the poet and a circle of Filipino American women grapple with what it means to live as a Filipina, or Pinay, in a world that has silenced, dehumanized, and broken the Pinay body. These are poems of Pinay tragedy and perseverance, of reappropriating monstrosity and hiya, sung in polyphony and hissed with forked tongues. To Love as Aswang is awardwinning Pinay poet Barbara Jane Reyes 's fourth fulllength collection of poetry. Eileen R. Tabios has released about 30 books, most recently I NVENT(ST)ORY: Selected Catalog Poems & New. INVENT(ST)ORY is Eileen R. Tabios’ second Selected Poems book, and spans catalog or list poems written from 19962015.
